Hi- I have a vivitar v2000 , and the 1st shutter curtain(closest to the lens) does not catch when the film is advanced. Where should I look to correct this problem?

Your problem is maybe that the catch itself is stuck open. A good jar may free it up. But more than likely the catch area has some gunk sticking the pivot. On the V2000 I believe the catch is at the top, so removal of the top cover and a bit of rinsing the area with Ronsonol may free it right up.
