Hi all,

I really need some advice on this. My Minolta X-700 started having some shutter curtain problems:

it doesn't open at speeds above 1/60, and only opens 1/2 way at 1/60 & below. I tried new batteries but it didn't help.

Can anyone explain to me how to fix this? I have some experience with electronics & small scale mechanical work but never fixed a camera, and right now I cannot afford to pay $100+ to a repair tech.

Thanks for your advice!

hi arthur:

this sounds like there may be something obstructing the opening curtain... possibly a film chip has gotten into the works. it's a fairly major disassembly to reach the curtains and associated geartrain where this might be happening, though.... i don't think i've ever gone that deeply into an x700 to make sketches.
