Sam, I have an X300s (very similar to yours) and that developed a similar (or maybe the same) problem as your X370. When I turned it on, the meter would work when I just partly depress the shutter release button. Then when I press it all the way, the meter leds would just turn off and nothing would happen. The problem turned out a dried out capacitor. To get to it you need to take off the bottom plate and replace it (some soldering required). Here is a picture I found of an X700 with the bottom plate removed. The capacitor on your camera is essentially in the same place:
