There was one post which mentioned repairing a problem with an XD11 in manual mode, but my problem is in all modes. I did get the details on the variable resistors from that post so if nothing else pans out I'll try that. I've taken off the baseplate to check the condition of what was down there, and everything looked fairly pristine, and the camera wouldn't misfire for me while it was removed.
