Hi, glad I found this site. Wonderful stuff here; a dream come true!

Anyway, I have a beautiful Canon Canonet 28 purchased in a thrift store that had a battery in the compartment explode and the corrosion ate the wire off of the terminal. I have cleaned it up and have been trying to soldering the wire back on but it always wicks up some evil brown plastic stuff and it ruins the join.

Should I replace the entire wire or is there a technique I can use to solder the wire in place?
