Below the wind-lever, under the top cover, is a sleeve which turns 1/3 of a turn each time you cock the shutter. There is a pawl which engages one of 3 slots to push the sleeve round, and 3 pins on the sleeve, one of which engages in a hooked plate each time to pull a metal strip which cocks the shutter. I would be pretty sure the fault must be around here, but it is not one I have met.

There is a guide in the articles section on this site to taking the cover off an MTL3, which should be similar, but if it is the first camera you have dismantled, you might be better off looking for an alternative for your holiday, and you will have an interesting job to look forward to when you get back!
