There's some information on this site about using a UV light source (or Blacklight) to irradiate the fungus.

The lens may be easy to open up, however without the correct tools, it may flounder. Knowing fungus, its spores will spread over time, possibly infecting your camera, and then other lenses with the same. Perhaps it is best not to use until you can deal with the fungus, either by opening and cleaning with hydrogen peroxide and then alcohol before drying out thoroughly and closing up the lens.

This approach is probably overcautious, however consequently, I've not found any other lenses, than the ones which originally had fungus, stored by others.
