If so, the rotating mount might be for vertical shots. Other than that I can't think of a reason for it. Hope you enjoy the lens! Let me know how well it performs, I've developed a sort of low-budget interest in these. I did some comparison shots of the moon with 3 lenses on my Flickr page, but they don't tell the whole story: my Tokina 500/8 came in last but it's a very handy lens and I use it more than the winners.
