Maybe worth checking what the camera is doing against this first as Reiner is right, no lamps should light if everything is OK. So maybe you are just expecting something to happen when it shouldn't.

If you think the shutter is not opening properly, open the back of the camera and look through the lens while firing the shutter. You should see it open briefly. If it doesn't open at all then you do have a problem.
