I will open up my AE-1 (it has a roll in it at present) in a day or two and confirm the red dots for you.

You are correct regarding the green dots.

The coil (blue dot) is the galvanometer and the aperture needle is attached to it.

I can send you the PDF file of the manual that I have if you wish (if yes, PM me your email address). The manual has some "rules of thumb" regarding the mechanics. e.g. the round thing under the rewind knob should have some particular angle in its markings for it to be set correctly. The quality of the manual is horrible though, the image are not very clear. It is quite readable, however.
