I've got a 35 RC that is in pretty good condition that I plan on giving to my wife for christmas. The aperture however is really sticky. It will open all the way to 2.8 but most of the time very slowly. Once in a blue moon (1 of 100?) it'll open quickly/correctly. I can see a smear of something on the aperture blades when looking through the lens. I'd like to clean it off in hope of getting the aperture moving correctly 100% of the time. I'm tempted to remove the front element to get to the aperture blades to clean them per Sauli's guide here: http://www.saulisarkka.com/gallery/Cameras/Olympus%2035%20RC%20front%20element%2 0swap/slides/oly_35_rc_front_lens_1.html My questions are: 1. Is this an OK or terrible idea? 2. What best to clean with? Lighter fluid? Isopropyl? 3. If I mark the element assembly before rotating it out of the helicoid and make sure it all goes back in the exact same way will the infinity focus and range finder be hunky dory? Thanks! Chris |
