Unscrew the stop post at the back of the accessory shoe (the side of the shoe nearest the lens). Use a small screwdriver to probe around the back of the plate and try to slide the plate toward you (toward the back of the camera, away from the lens). It shouldn't be too hard to get it off. I may be able to post some pictures tomorrow night.
