Before your kit gets dumped in the parts bin, can you confirm that the lens mount is the original FD breech type - usually the locking ring is a silver alloy ring with serrations around the circumference - and that the lens is not of the interchangeable mount type. ie you cannot remove the rear mount assembly to allow use on another make of camera.
