I found in each case the battery was completely dead, but in the case of my Canon AT-1, I had the same trouble as yourself. I tried cleaning the camera contacts where they touch the battery and presto, 100 % working. Now I have 3 Canons for $45.00 Can. and 1 even came with a 50mm f1.4 woo hoo. Hope this works for you.
