I was trained on these cameras by canon a lot of years ago. I wouldn't fix one if I was paid, actually I have refused the last 25 that came into my shop.

They have a panitary gear system under the rewind lever. They also have a very strange mosfet metering system that is very sensitive to static. When the top is off it is absolutely imparative that the switch be closed so it does not pick up a static charge. I watched a canon tech blow a camera by getting up, scratching his nuts and sitting back down then touching the circuit.

The EF was a design that was dropped within 2 years. If you pull the mirrorbox you will find a series of contacts that were to be used for other things that would be added in the future. The AE seried came out and the EF was scrapped.
