Slow rangefinders usually are easy to fix. In many cases placing a droplet of lighter fluid on each bearing of the lever(s) you see will do the trick. If you want to do something good to your rf then place a tiny (I said TINY) droplet of gun or watchmakers' oil on each bearing.

In very few cases it is corrosion. Sometimes the bearings or shafts are made from steel which may corrode over time. In these cases sometimes oil works but it is better to disassemble the mechanism and remove traces of rust with a glass fibre erazor.
