A good rule of thumb to follow in cases like this - One grub screw present equals locking screw on threaded assembly. Two or three grub screws equally spaced around circumference equals push fit components with perhaps a locating groove for the screw points.

Does not always follow of course and cheaper equipment can have just one grub screw holding push fit knobs onto shafts, but remembering this 'rule' can prevent a frustrating evening and/or damaged/marked components.
