Fanfaron, not trying to discourage you from the start, but this seems to be a (relatively modern) zoom lens. I would not encourage you to start with such. While 'traditional' lenses are built up by stacking a set of rings, glass elements etc, all of which are machined to tight tolerances, modern lenses gave up tight mechanical tolerance in favor of post-assembly adjustment. While you can disassemble, say, Jupiter 8 and put it back together and be done, as soon as you remove some elements from an AF zoom you are likely into a long session of adjustments you most likely don't have tools for.
