With a bit of care you can modify the above idea to make the mod less noticeable. If you stick a thin strip of felt between the zoom ring and barrel with a strong double sided tape the modification will be hidden. The trick is to insert the felt and the adhesive tape with the release backing strip still attached. eg If you wish to insert a one inch length of felt into the gap proceed as follows - Cut a 4" length of double sided tape and stick the piece of felt at one end. Now carefully separate the remaining 3" of adhesive tape from the backing and cut the adhesive tape away from the stuck down piece of felt, leaving 3" of free backing still attached. Now fold the backing tape back on its self, making the fold about 1/2" from the 'inner' edge of the stuck down felt. Push the tape/felt into the collar/barrel gap so that the felt rubs on the barrel and holding the end of the felt flush with the edge of collar - use a thin piece of plastic or wood - carefully work the backing strip out. If you have chosen the correct thickness of felt you will find that it will be firmly held in place by the adhesive tape.
