The camera suffers from very cheap electrical components, particularly the capacitors. It's the aging of components which can cause problems.

Fortunately it's usually possible to bring the speeds in by adjusting the pots which are located on the flex over the prism. You will need to get the top off and will also need some sort of a shutter speed tester.
