You should first try cleaning the battery contacts and make certain the power wires to those contacts are still intact, this is the number one cause of failure.

These older Yashica flashes aren't worth any more work than that, better to just buy a working one, they're cheap enough (for all the Yashica flash models, see: http://www.cdegroot.com/cgi-bin/photowiki/YashicaAccessories ). As Michael says, if you root around inside the flash & make contact with the capacitor circuit you could get a severe shock.
