You describe that you can see the aperture opening and closing, and the viewfinder getting dark. It sounds to me like the stop down mechanism has gotten engaged, as on a normally operating FTb with an FD lens, the aperture stays open until the moment before the shutter opens or if you press in the stopdown mechanism. With the stopdoown mechanism engaged, the ring will be all the way in the lower right hand corner of the viewfinder, out of the way. When you remove the lens, can you see a red dot at the bottom of the mirror box? If you do, check the stopdown/self timer lever and see where the small lever on the bottom of it is set. It should be as close as possible to the lens mount. |
