Hi, I have a strange problem with Nikon FA camera concerning shooting modes. Camera works in all speeds but in S mode appears info on lcd about shutter speed (like in P mode) not about f/stop. The shutter is chosen by camera, but it should match speed from the dial. In A priority mode there is + or - visible and camera behaves like in manual mode. Sometimes the lcd info displays correct info, flashes it (e.g. shutter info in A mode) for short time and then the +/- like in manual mode. Replacing batteries to fresh ones didn't change anything. Could this problem be connected with temporary use of Vivitar 35mmm/2.8 auto wide lens on this body? I'm not sure if it is AI or non-Ai - I'm not sure if it is relevant. All the time I used the nikkor af-d 50mm 1.8 with this body without any issues. Thanks for any help |

i don;t have the answer myself, but I once used a great Camera Repair person in Florida that serviced my camera quite nicely. I'd recommend checking him out to see if he can give you an estimate or advice on how to fix it: http://TheCameraCure.com Hope that helps. |

I once had an FA. It has so many failsafe modes to compensate for the user I never knew most of the time when it was actually malfuctioning. A lot of people think the FA is the tops but I sold mine as soon as possible. Stick to total manual like an F2 or go with an N8008S was my solution. |

Thanks for Your input. I still didn't solve this problem. I wonder if it may have been caused by damaging the meter coupling mechanism by the mentioned lens. I couldn't find if it is ai or non-ai lens. |

Could the mode swith under the shutter speed dial be out of alignment slightly so when you think you've selected A mode the switch has actually selected M mode? That would mean in S mode you've actually selected A mode so you see the shutter speed in the display. Just a thought. Ronnie |
