Recently my GSN stopped taking pictures. When pressing the shutter release it would not budge and seemed to be blocked. I took the top cover off and everything seemed fine. The I took the bottom cover off and noticed that there was a cam that seemed to be blocking the shutter release shaft from moving down. Sure enough I moved the cam manually and pressed the shutter release and it worked. I don't know why this cam is getting in the way or what it is meant to do. You can see in the attached pic the cam and the shutter release rod and it clearly blocked. Not sure if this is a POD issue or what is not rotating the cam out of the way when the shutter is cocked. Please help.

Yes it's a POD issue. The POD has disintegrated allowing the rod to go further back than it should and allowing the catch (cam as you describe it) to flip across the end of the rod. Normally this catch sits against the side of the rod and, when the shutter release is pressed, the catch latches behind a shoulder near the end of the rod, keeping it in it's pressed down position until the next time the film is advanced and the catch is pushed out of the way allowing the rod to return up against the POD. This is the clunk that's normally heard when the film is advanced.
Hope that makes sense but, either way, the POD needs replacing. |

Thanks. That makes sense, I adjusted the rod to catch, but I think it is way too far down now and the meter doesn't work at all. Looks like I'll be replacing the POD. ugh! |
