Sorry if this has been asked before, but I searched for this problem and didn't find anything. I bought a Yashica D off eBay. The shutter cocks just fine, but the shutter doesn't open on any setting other than B. It barely moves when the shutter is fired on 1/1000 through 1 sec., but opens fully and closes on B. I've been inside a D's shutter before, but I'm wondering if this is worth me trying to fix myself (or is even fixable) and what it might be before I start pulling things apart? Thanks in advance... -A |

Are you absolutely sure, that the shutter doesn't open AT ALL on any speed other than B? I find it likely that it opens at 1/500th (do you really have 1/1000th? What shutter is that?!) at all settings besides B. If this is the case, then follow this thread: https://kyp.hauslendale.com/classics/forum/messages/2/19153.html?1281461416 READ IT FULLY before asking further questions, I go to great lengths answering questions, but not these that I have answered once already. Marek PS: I hardly believe you did the search you claim, as this thread is on the first page still and you didn't mention even looking through it. |

It doesn't open. I must have mistyped 1/1000 sec.... but I meant 1/500. I always search forums before posting a question. This time, I searched specifically for this issue involving a Yashica D. I didn't think to search in a more general fashion, which was my honest mistake, but I'm more accustomed to asking for help on old SLRs, where generally the model of camera is more important than the model of shutter. But I do appreciate the implication... actually, outright accusation... that I lied about searching through the forums just to get somebody to repeat an answer that was already available. |

Is the opening and closing at B instant, or sluggish? Can you confirm, that on settings other than B the shutter *spring* actually gets released? PReferably by opening front mask and checking the cocking lever tension before and after releasing. Marek |
