I have a pair of KS-2 Sears cameras, badged Ricoh XR-7’s, I believe. Both are like new. They came to me labeled as “mirror stuck up problem”. However, both shutters work good when I installed batteries. Both work fine manually and meter correctly. However, neither one can be used “A” as no Auto/Aperture-priority-mode can be found nor locked in via the shutter speed dial. The Auto Lock itself works, but when set to A the cameras both “behave” as if they are set to Bulb, B. In fact, even the little “B” shows up on the LCD viewfinder data, when set to B or A. At first I thought the dial was simply installed a notch off or something. But, every shutter speed on the dial is correct (1/1000 really is 1/1000, 2 seconds really is 2 seconds, etc.). And, bulb mode works when set to “B”. Problem is, it also works when set to Auto, “A”. After a week of turning on camera once a day and playing with it a few minutes, I have never had either mirror stay in the up position. Any chance these two problems, mirror stuck and no aperture-priority mode are connected? Both cameras look unused, basically mint, remarkably good for a camera from the 1980’s. Small, impressive little camera – though the tiny over-under exposure arrows in the viewfinder LCD are torture to read in anything but bright sunlight. |
