Anyone have a good step-by-step process for troubleshooting OM-1 meter problems? Mine has a totally dead meter. Installed a fresh WeinCell. Have tried the 0bvious: cleaned battery compartment and contacts, checked battery lead with bottom cover off, etc. Had the top cover off today and didn't note any corrosion or broken wires or solder(removed old gunked-out foam from around the prism). Meter needle swings freely. Any advice on how to procceed? Thanks for any help-- Ken |

It sounds like you've checked all the obvious things... did you test continuity from the battery to the meter? I've read that mercury battery corrosion can eat away the copper inside the insulation a considerable distance up the wires. Another thing is the meter grounds with a screw, those are sometimes loosened or not making good contact. If you're lucky Clint will see this message, he runs a very fine repair shop specialized in Olympus (factory trained and all that...) and can give you a better answer. |

Hmmm.... didn't check continuity. Will do it tomorrow. If continuity is good, maybe I'll try a really big hammer......... ;) |

take off the bottom & see if the battery chamber is loose. If so, the plastic insulating screw that holds it is broken. There's a way to fix it. If it's ok, then the top has to come off to do some other checks, Don |

Thanks for info so far! Pulled top cover today, checked continuity in wire from battery to switch and it was good. Battery compartment is in great shape...... Anyone with a systematic step by step would be my personal hero at this point! |

I think you can find the service manual available for free download, try Mark Dapoz's Olympus hardware pages... a good source of info for Olympus camera fixing. http://olympus.dementia.org/Hardware/ |
