Hi,
I have a Rollei 35S with the a built-in CdS light meter. It runs on PX-625 1.35V mercury battery, which is no longer available. I'd like to calibrate the meter to accept a 1.5V alkaline or a silver-oxide with a CRIS adapter. There are 2 potentiometers, one for the CdS cell and another for the matching/pointer needle.
If you have experience on this, please lend your inputs. I have a light meter and volt-meter ready.

Niki,
When using a C.R.I.S. adapter with a 1.5V battery, your camera does not need any re-calibration. The adapter will reduce the voltage from 1.5V to 1.35V, as needed by your Rollei.

The CRIS adapter is my SECOND option. I've heard that the meter can be used with a 1.5V, but it needs recalibration. I'll try this method if possible.

Niki,
here is my understanding of the re-calibration as I have found it somewhere in photonet:
the potentiometer at the backside of the Rollei is for the adjustment of the meter. The one at the right side (viewed from behind) is to control the linearity of the meter circuit.
I have re-calibrated a meter in a Rollei 35 S in this way. As reference I used my Gossen meter and a known good Rollei 35. To my surprise there was no linearity adjustmend necessary. I took a silde film with it but I did not yet see the slides in projection, just as they are. Pictures in clear light are ok. The pictures made in low light seem a touch to dark. So maybe a linearity correction would be recommended.
However, even with the original light meter calibration I made the experience that CDS cells tend to cause underexposure near the lower end of their range. I made this last experience with different cameras of different types all equipped with standard CDS cells (f. ex. 7sII, 35RD, GIII, Rollei 35 etc). So I think this could be considered as normal. |
