Hi,
Can anyone suggest or recommend a book on the dissassembly of the Copal shutters?
I have a project camera w/Copal SV that has a bad shutter leaf. Does the escapement and timer assembly etc. have to be removed? It looks like the whole shutter needs to be taken apart to repair.
Having never done this before I would like something pretty detailed.

Look around on the web first. Google should turn up some good material. With the advent of digital cameras, some of the web repair guide sites have better pictures than the repair books. |

You should check the repair article section - the Lynx5000 has a very similar shutter. You may also check
www.daniel.mitchell.name
for the repair article on the Lynx14E. Most Copal shutters have similar layouts.
In most cases you will have to remove the aperture assembly the housing of which is one part with the shutter outer wall. It is usually attached to the shutter assembly via some screws on the rear circumference of the shutter. Some hairsprings inside the shutter may run against the wall from inside, so it's better to remove the speed and self timer gears prior to disassembly. |
