Working on a Minolta XG-1(n) acquired with the following problems: Linkage "fork" tines connecting advance lever to shutter linkage were bent, now straightened. Mirror is in correct position. Shutter capacitor appears to work. When advancing the camera, the shutter curtains only slide 3/4 of the way through the frame, don't latch, and go back almost to their starting position. Depressing shutter button raises mirror to 'up' position, and stays. Manually sliding curtain to the left makes mirror come down, then curtain clicks back into place and is set to be advanced again. It almost feels as if the advance linkage isn't starting the curtain sliding soon enough in sequence, so it can't get through the frame before the advance lever hits its hard stop. Has anyone seen a problem like this in an XG before or any other camera? Could this be indicative of a previous user forcing the advance lever and breaking teeth on one of the plastic shutter gears? Thanks for any help. |

The wind travel is off. Examine the plastic gears at the bottom, particularly the large blue or grey gear to see if the teeth are damaged. If so, you will need a donor body as parts are no longer available from Minolta. |

Thanks Michael... actually fixed it before I read this post, but you're right. The gears were fine, but the extra play was due to the advance mechanism 'undercharging' the shutter. A simple adjustment took care of it, and another deceased minolta lives again... |

Bruce, Interesting problem. I have the same with a X-700 and had the same with a SRT303. How did you adjust the sutter 'undercharging'. I found how on the SRT but not on the X-700. It fires if I force but not anymore, Thank you and have a nice day, Abel. |
