I have a Minolta XG-1 that I bought brand new in approx. 1979 or 1980. My camera has worked fine until 2 months ago. I went to snap a pic and my shutter stuck closed. How do I unstick it? I replaced batteries, I removed the roll of film. I cannot even advance film because it seems everything is stuck. Will I upset the balance of the mirrors if this is taken apart? thanks for any info.
This is probably the dreaded "capacitor curse". It affects all the X-series Minolta SLR:s sooner or later. To fix it, You have to remove the bottom plate and exchange the electrolytic capacitor under the flexible circuit board. It requires good skills in soldering small components, so don´t attempt it if You feel this is not something You can do.
