I recently completed work on a Lynx 5000 that needed aperture blade/shutter cleaning. At the end of the job, I decided to tackle the dim rangefinder. Removing the top, I discovered signs of a previous intruder. There was a lot of excess glue bubbled up around the beamsplitter, and the mirrored surface was streaked and faded as though someone had attempted to wipe it clean.
Rather than buying yet another old rangefinder for parts, I decided to try the beamsplitter from an Electro 35 GSN that I had on hand. As it turned out, it's a perfect fit. After gluing it in with Duco clear cement, I made the necessary rangefinder adjustments, then painted over the new glue with a light coat of flat black. The result looks like it just came from the factory.
I now have the world's brightest Lynx 5000 rangefinder! |
