After reading some articles about selenium meters in this forum I wonder whether there are any new ideas or useful hints about repairing or replacing them. Can those who know of new ways or methods respond, please?

There was once a thread about these cells in Weston meters. Try a search for Weston meters.

I think we did find a company that sells replacements as well but they are expensive, perhaps more expensive than buying a working modern meter.

I don't have a current Radio Shack catalog but a few years ago they had cheap photovoltaic cells. How much work to adapt to a specific camera or light meter I don't know.

These guys sell selenium cells as well as new selenium light meter (expensive) I don't know whether it is possible to get a replacement cell for an older light-meter from them though.

If you just want to see the needle move in response to light changes, try moving the cell up and down in its recesses. This will often break through the build-up of resistance at the contacts.
