I recently picked up a Taron rangefinder. It has a Copal MXV shutter, however, I don't believe this is the problem. When I advance the film, the shutter won't fire. When I wind the film advance while holding in the film release button, the shutter cocks and fires normally. How do I remove the film advance lever to access the top. I think something is just loose. Otherwise this camera is a beauty. |

Rob, what is the name of your camera? Some later Tarons had left handed threads of the chrome covering screw of the winding lever, so do be careful when trying to unscrew it, W. |

There seems to be a cap on the advance lever. It has plier marks on it. Maybe, this is the way? |

Sorry, Rob, I do not know that one, but all the Tarons I have ever opened had a sort of decorating left-threaded screw ("cap" ?) with two holes for inserting a tool. Underneath there is an ordinary brass screw by which the lever is held in place. With the top screw out of the way disassembly follows the usual routine, W. |

Forgot to mention the top screws without two holes. For those you need a friction tool, pliers won't help in any way, W. |

Hi Werner, good news. I got the top cap off with the friction tool you suggested. It came off counter clockwise (right handed thread). I also took the lens out altogether after removing the top and bottom. It turned out the spindle that cocks the shutter was loose. Everything is back together again and in working order. Thank you so much for your help. :-) |
