ok, i know some will cry "blasphemer!", but has anyone ever tried using mmdel racer axle lube in a shutter? the stuff i've seen is alcohol-based, where the alcohol is basically the carrier for graphite and molybdenum. also, i'm not sure how to deal with a problem with the shutter release. there is a roughly fork-shaped piece which engages an arm on the shutter blade actuating ring (i'm sure that's not the correct name), pushing them open when the speed is set to "b" or "t." this fork piece has somehow become loose or wobbly, so that it can sort of jump out of its travel which jams things up. i figure there must be a way to tighten this piece up or restrict its movement somehow? |

I'm not a lube nazi, but there are very few places where i use lubricant in a shutter. i assume this stuff is dry when the alcohol is gone, which is good... if the particles of graphite are invisibly fine, then it might work very well. the graphite that i've had is much too coarse. If that actuator thing is loose, it sounds like it's either worn out, damaged or something is missing. |

rick, i got the thing taken apart--it was a lot easier than i thought. turns out this shutter had been pretty badly treated. parts were bent and tweaked. more bending, tweaking, and some careful lubing seems to have put everything right as rain. i'm so stoked! all shutter settings buzz along really nicely, though a tad long at the slow end, i think. anyhow, just wanted to say thanks for the reply, rick. |

no problem! glad it worked out. you may be able to speed up the slow speeds by loosening the screws at the opposite ends of the timing escapement and scooting it sideways a little bit. |
