I havnt had this before, I have owned the camera for decades, its in very good condition. cosmetically at least!
I have used it recently with no problems, just now I was dry firing it , just comparing the shutter sound and action to another camera actually, when the lever just jammed. I wasn't forcing it, or using it roughly (I always treat the old girl with respect 
Am I missing something to unlock the advance lever? Is there a simple fix for this? What causes it? I am puzzled at the moment, if not a bit worried for my old favourite.
I would appreciate some insight |

There are a number of ways that a camera can get jammed. One place that I would look, though, is under the bottom plate: there is a gear down there, about 10mm in diameter, held with a screw in the middle. Check to see if this screw is loose. If this gear gets out of mesh, the wind system can jam. (PS: this is a Left Hand screw) |

Rick is right-that's the usual cause, but sometimes it's as simple as the interlock levers in the base not moving freely (next to the battery compartment). DON'T lubricate-they run dry.Incidentally, the screw holding the flat faced gear with the two notches out of it is conventional thread and has a spring underneath, but the other one holding the cocking gear with the visible teeth is left handed, and the screw at the other end of the plate is conventional thread. Weird. |
