OK, I'll take a stab it this. The Rolleiflex focusing know is connected to the focusing rod via friction. This rod is then, in turn, connected to two sets of focusing cams (one on each side) which are on the rod through keys, so they cannot slip. These cams push arms on either side of the lens plate.
Since the cams are VERY unlikely to slip out of position, and the lens plate cannot really fall out of position, I would guess that the focusing knob itself needs to be tightened up.
If you remove the black cover from the center of the focusing knob (small spanner or rubber ball should work) you can see the brass split nut that locks the knob in place. It is cone shaped and screws onto the focus shaft. Tighten this nut up and see if the lenses move.
Then you need to figure out how to set the focus back into calibration and align all the distance numbers. Focus the ground glass on something really far away then tighten the knob back on with the infinity marker lined up to the mark.

Thanks for the advice Matt. I tried it, though, and no luck. The knob turns freely between infinity and 2.5, but then is rough/tight around 2, then spins freely again until about 1 where it is also tight, and then free again down to minimum distance.
Any other thoughts? |

I take that back! I just tried tightening it again and now it's working. Not quite sure why it didn't before, but thanks so much! |
