Hello,
I recently I repaired the light meter on my OM1. All I did was resolder some connections on the PCB located near the on/off switch. It appears the meter is reading 2-3 stops low even with a new silver oxide battery (1.55 Volts). I am pretty sure I Kept the ASA knob in the same spot when reassembling the top back on. If I set the ASA to 400 and do the sunshine test with 125 shutter speed and F16 I get the meter in the middle. If set the ASA to 125 then the meter is down about 3 stops. Any idea what I can check to fix this.

I believe the original battery was a mercury cell with a different voltage. This is a common problem encountered when old camera and light meter owners install new batteries - the old mercury cells are no longer available in most non-third-world countries. Dig around for alternatives, there are several. |

The silver oxide 1.55v battery would cause a higher reading but I'm getting a lower reading. So this points to another problem. I'm aware of the mercury situation.

I took it apart once again and his time I removed all the wires going to the PCB and cut off the ends of the wires and stripped off the insulation and re soldered them back. This seems to have worked this time finally...
Hopefully this will help someone else having this problem. |
