Hello All
Having read throu all the answers that I can find on the 35 GSN, but not found the answer I need.
The camera I have works well in Auto, buy when switched to B on pressing the shutter button the shutter opens but does not close when released, will only close when switched to Auto.
Does anyone have any ideas about the reason for this?? |

If it hasn't been serviced in a long time, or ever, could be the POD is going south, and now the switch board connected to the shutter release is out of alignment. You might be able to adjust this back into position, but then it will just eventually go bad again. Time for a general sevicing.

Great lenses - but I've never seen a Yashica GSN that didn't have problems. |

Apparently the electronics in the later production runs were cheapened, that's probably why you hear a lot of those stories about the shutter not closing on f/16 in Auto when shooting in very low light. Like on mine... |

See this image, where in lower leftr corner u will see a portion of a switch.

You are able to see the white wire solder to the switch. This is closed always except when shutter release is pressed down.
Though this switch operates during every release operation its function is only effective B mode.
In B mode , when you release the shutter release this switch connects capacitor to supply rail immediately charging it thereby closing shutter.
In your case this switch might not be closing as it should.You will need to open the top cover to see this switch. Operate the camera with top removed, and see if the shutter closes by shorting the soldered terminals that u see in the photo above. it is obvious that shuuter closes when u swithc to othre mode because the capacitor then charges thrugh alternative path.
Unfortunately if this is the problem then you will need to dismantle the front plate and check the sliding switch linked to the shutter release rod.
