The outer rim of a lens element of a Pen-F f3.5/20mm lens should have black paint which unfortunately is almost all gone.
please see a photo of it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kuuan/7528844848/in/photostream
could anybody please tell me which paint can be used, will adhere to glass?
thank you

Ultra Flat Black Crylon acrylic is what I use. I've seen people use markers but I think the marker is not opaque enough, results may be spotty, but worth giving it a try if you don't have paint available.

I use model railroad flat black paint used for painting the little houses and things. I think the brand is Floquil.

thank you very much for your answers, Paul and Finnegan.
I used a marker now, well, two really, the first was useless and the second 'kind of' worked. Most likely I won't find the brands you suggested but I will look out for ultra flat acrylic resp. model paint to redo the job.
thank's again

I think any brand flat black paint will work fine.

I have used Kodak Brushing Lacquer No. 4, Dull Black. Unfortunately, it is long unavailable, but persistent eBay searching might find it. I think it's a real nitrocellulose lacquer with carbon black (soot) as the colorant.

I would think a solvent based paint would work better than an acrylic in this application.

Go to a well stocked hobbyshop & pick up or order a bottle of Scalecoat 1 flat black that gives a hard, long lasting finish. Takes a few days to cure so dont rush it. Well known for ptg. brass locomotive models.

Stove paint. It is used for painting wood stoves flat black. It is very flat and very durable.

I've done this with Testor's model enamel. I don't think it matters whether it's flat or gloss black, as the important side is at the glass surface. The lenses that I have repainted had been done in gloss black Japan lacquer, so I used gloss to match the original. From the lens side it looks the same either way.

Vivitar used to market a flat black paint especially for camera/lens inner surfaces. But, it's probably long gone.
