My FT3 split screen focus aid won't line align at infinity. I've tried a couple of different lenses on the body. This was cla'd at one time and stuck away in a drawer without usage. Any idea's on what I can explore as to a problem? I don't trust the focus so I'm not using it. |

There might be 3 reasons for this, one, the focusing screen is out of position - although I can't see how this could happen as the screen is a very positive fit in Nikkormats - or the mirror is not returning to its stop - in which case you would see a "skewed" viewfinder image. Third, the lens mount has shims under it to achieve proper infinity focus - if these were incorrectly placed or missed out during reasembly that could be the cause. |

I wouldn't doubt the third possibility. There was a speed ring adjustment and I'm sure they had that apart. I wonder if I can find shims if they are needed?
I've looked at the mirror just thru the mount and see no reason for that being a problem. I thought that possibly the screen was put in backwards? |

I don't think that's possible, but normally the flat, engraved side of the screen should face downwards. The other side has a convex, glass surface, this should be the side against the prism. |
