This is the same camera that I posted an earlier message about the meter being off. It also has a rather badly scratched up focusing screen and I'd like to replace it. It is possible to remove it, but removal and installation is kinda tricky, which is probably how it got scratched up in the first place. I'm wondering if the XG-M screen is interchangeable with any other Minolta MF SLR's. I went to eBay and did a search and got a hit on a factory replacement screen for the X700. It looks very similar to the XG-M screen, and I'm thinking it might interchange. That was the only screen I found on eBay for the manual focus Minoltas. It would be nice to know whether the X700 screen will work before I have to shell out the bucks for it. Anybody have any experience in this area that you'd care to share? Got any extra focusing screens that'll fit an XG-M you'd consider parting with? |

How close was the price of the factory screen to just buying a broken (or not) XG-M body? If you can get another body cheap you'll have a replacement screen and a good source of other replacement parts. |

Hi Mike, well if I can find a broken body it will probably be cheaper than that X700 screen. I think the seller wanted $25 for the screen. I had posted a similar message on another forum and got a response from a fellow who's gonna send me a screen from an X7A, I believe. Might be close enough to work. At any rate, yeah, buying a busted body will be the cheapest way to go, unless I can find somebody who already has one who'll sell just the screen. |
