I have two shutters, copal 0 and copal 1, about 20 years old. They have been used very little and not at all for the past ten years. I suspect that they are operating at speeds much less than indicated with resulting serious overexposure. Is it possible (probable) that they need service, cleaning, lubrication, etc.?? If they do, I do not have tools not expertise necessary to tear down, inspect, service, lubricate, etc. Can someone advise me with respect to this matter, including names, addresses of shops who perform such inspection, testing and servicing?? thank you. Hi James: I'd take them to a camera store in Salt Lake City; I'm sure there's a local repair service in your area that can handle this job, and the store will know who they are. rick = |

First, if you aren't squeemish about unscrewing the lens elements, you can try flood cleaning the shutter blades with naptha. This often frees up sluggish shutters, but it not the same as having them professionally cleaned and adjusted. Here are instructions for flood cleaning: http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~b-wallen/BN_Photo/GenTechShutters.htm Photonet has a useful forum where people can report their experiences--good and bad--with repair services. Looking through this might help you find options. http://www.photo.net/neighbor/one-subcategory?id=1 |
