I have an Olympus XA with a shutter problem. When you press the red button the shutter opens for approx. 12 seconds & then closes. If I set the camera for flash the shutter works perfectly. I have cleaned the magnet contacts with lighter fluid but to no avail, can anybody help me with this problem? Thank you in anticipation Edwin |

I'm not sure if its a help, but it sounds to me like the meter is not working, at least that the meter is 'seeing' darkness and making the exposure the maximum that the shutter is capable of. The shutter speed on the 'flash' setting is fixed at about 1/30th, so that's consistent with the shutter working correctly but being told by the meter to stay open for as long as it can, which again is consistent at 'about ten seconds' (12 is well within tolerance for that). I would look for a broken wire between the light meter cell and the rest of the circuitry, which would lead to the camera thinking it was in a -very- dark room all the time. |
