Just got a rather beat up prewar "Praktiflex" 35mm SLR, and didn't realize that it takes M40 screwmount lenses (not the M42 pentax screw mount). Nifty thing is -- the shutter works, and appears that the speeds are close to usable as well (no drag or capping).

Anyone got suggestions on where I might find a lens to fit or adapt? I've got some russian Zorki lenses -- M39 -- which I could jimmy up a cardboard ring as an adapter for -- but the lens to focal plane length is of course wrong, so focus is out...

You could do the same with an M39 Zenit lens that has the same thread as the Zorki but the same flange register as the M42. Also, I believe that if you can find a junk Praktica for parts, the early Prakticas had interchangeable front end parts with the Praktiflexes so you could swap out the M42 mount.

Hmm -- so some of the early zenit cameras used M39 lenses, eh? Good to know -- do you happen to know which models used that lense mount?. I'll keep an eye out for both them and for a junked Praktika.

Thanks!

It's a charming little camera -- the mirror is quite badly damaged, but it's still got a quite usable focusing image when I handhold a lens in place... so I hope I can find a lens that fits. And it's got a nice satisfying mirror & shutter sound...

The Zenit models before the E/B (C, 3, 3m) and even the early Zenit Es (serial numbers starting 67, and early ones from 68) had M39 lenses in SLR register.
