My FT3 still works great except for one problem: At shutter speeds below 1/8 second, the shutter takes a long time to close (over a minute). The B setting and all other speeds work fine. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks |

The slow speed escapement probably needs cleaning. It's not a trivial job, you have to remove the mirror box to reach it. |

Thanks Rick. Do you know where I can find detailed instructions on how to do this? |

Email me at [email protected] and I'll send you what I have - it's kind of a mix, some sketches for the FT3 and some for earlier models, but they are all very similar - hopefully it will be close enough to help. It MIGHT be possible to insert a hypodermic needle with solvent from below, without having to disassemble the camera - the escapement is located behind the self timer - but I've never done it that way. You need to take care not to let solvent get to the viewfinder, as even lighter fluid (which is safe almost everywhere) can attack the inks on the shutter speed readout in the finder. rick |
