Recently I became infatuated with the Olympus XA rangefinder. I have done minor repairs on a couple of them but now I am having difficulties disassembling a new acquisition. This camera had sustained a fall and it was inoperative. I repaired the plastic that was broken or cracked and I straightened the metal parts that were bent. The only problem the camera had was stiff focusing but not so stiff as to become objectionable. I shot a film through it mainly to make sure it focused properly. So far so good; the film came out fine. Now the focusing has become extremely stiff. I need to separate the plastic focusing ring from the lens so I can tell what is the cause of the stiff focusing. I don't see any way of doing this short of taking the lens apart which I am loath to do. I tried to remove the whole lens/shutter assembly but after removing the four screws that attach it to the body the thing is still tethered to the bottom of the camera. I know that I can remove it piecemeal but I would like to do it in an intelligent way. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
