Hi,
I picked up a C35 last night which appears to work very well, but has one bothersome issue. As you can see from the photo, the chrome filter ring has been bashed/pressed and is now quite crooked. (I know it looks here like the focus ring is crooked, but it's an optical (ha-ha) illusion). It really is the chrome filter ring that is out of whack.
The lens is straight and moves normal to the body. The rangefinder works and the distance seems good. Focus is nice and smooth with no binding.
Shutter works great, meter is accurate compared to other cameras.
Is this worth disassembling the lens for, or would you just live with it?
And further, how is this filter ring attached to the rest of the lens? Is it just threaded in? I'm assuming this camera was dropped or banged at some point, so I'm just concerned it might be a symptom of something else.

Hi Bob, a while ago I reshaped the filter "ring" (it is in fact more than just a ring) on a Konica and also on an Oly RC which are both similar in that respect. I hope I can find my notes concerning realigning infinity focus, aperture coupling in flash mode, etc.(this will perhaps take a few days) and then be able to give you some more advice on what to do when I find them, W. |

Hi Bob, it is a lot easier! Just unscrew the two-notched ring in the filter thread and the name plate ring can be removed. After desoldering the two black wires to the CdS-cell the filter "ring " can be disassembled (three black crosshead screws), and that's that. Straightening it follows the usual routine (flat surface and a light hammer, a suitable piece of hard wood for its bottom, a cut-to-measure piece of plastic - the stem of a toothbrush is fine - and a semicircular cutout in a piece of wood for the filter thread like shown here: https://kyp.hauslendale.com/classics/filterringtool.html), good luck, W. |

I actually did figure it out. The "ring" is actually an aluminium cup mounted on 3 standoffs. Once I removed the CdS cell donut, I could see the cup had been bashed head on, and was squashed down over one of the standoffs. I removed it, straightened it out, and it's like new now.
Actually a pretty smart design, as the cup protrudes beyond anything else, and will absorb shock. It must have taken a good hit to bend in like that, but the rest of the camera is fine.
