I found my old Praktica MTL5B which seems to be perfect working order. There are however small brown spots visible through the view finder - I'm thinking its the prism, which is good as it shouldn't effect the pictures but is annoying every time I look through the lens. I don't suppose anyone knows how I can take the Praktica L series apart and the best way to clean it? Thanks in advance Yamit |

You are most likely to be correct in your thinking. However, I doubt that you will be able to remove these spots. I think that they will be on the glass/'silvering' interface, thus the only way to stop the annoyance is to replace the prism. It is sometimes possible to ascertain where the spots are in the optical system - remove lens and then look into eyepiece from a distance. By holding the camera to a light source and moving you viewpoint slightly, with experience it is sometimes possible to see if the marks are in the optical path or are in fact reflections from the glass/'silvering' interface. This type of fault is quite common in older SLR cameras, so finding a good prism in a scrap body can be a bit of a gamble. |

Thanks Glenn. Did as you suggested - the fact the spores "don't move" when I move the camera implies that the marks are on the optical path not the glass/silvering. Well I'm guessing thats what it implies! If so, does that mean cleaning may be possible? |
