Hi all, Just wondering how easy it would be to replace the timer lever on an Olympus OM-1 as pictured below?

It should be easy enough if you have a replacement lever and center screw. Is the old screw broken off in the camera? |

I'm not too sure as I don't have the camera in my possession just yet. I've just bought another OM-1 which also has a missing lever (also not in my possession yet). Seems like a common problem on these cameras. I don't intend on using this feature but it's just nice to have a fully functional camera. Another question if I may. The OM I bought this morning has a bent filter ring on the lens. Is the ring replaceable? I don't see why it shouldn't be but just thought I'd ask. Thanks for your time |

If it's a common problem, it's one that I have not encountered yet; but it's an easy fix. You might try emailing the folks at www.zuiko.com to see if they have any spare levers and hub screws, it MIGHT be cheaper than buying another camera to get the parts. Similarly, replacing a bent filter ring would involve buying a second lens with an unbent ring. With f/1.8 lenses running around $25 apiece, it might be simpler to just use the undamaged lens rather than trying to swap parts from it. The ring can also be straightened - possibly not to cosmetic perfection but usually well enough to be able to mount filters on it. |
